2000 changes to MSA Drag Racing rulebook PM 1.1 CARBURETTOR.
To read:
Any automotive production carburettor with any
internal modifications or mechanical fuel injection permitted. Electronic fuel injection accepted on Nitrous cars only and then with a maximum of eight 2.25 air inlets and one nozzle per runner.
PM 1.3 ENGINE.
To read:
Any internal combustion engine allowed with any modifications. Only one engine permitted. On all intake manifolds an intake burst panel or pop-off valve is recommended. Engine
capacity is limited to 11.65 litre/711 c.i. (no tolerance) for carburetted engines and 8.63 litre/527 c.i. (notolerance) for supercharged engines. Harmonic balancer meeting SFI spec. 18. 1 mandatory. See GSR: 1. 2.
PM 1.12 SUPERCHARGER.
To read:
Screw type superchargers prohibited. Turbochargers prohibited. Use of nitrous oxide or electronic fuel injection together with supercharger prohibited. Maximum
overdrive for 14-71 standard; 50%, for 14-71 helix; 29%. No inter-coolers permitted. Maximum size; 19 inch rotor case length, 11 1/4 inch case width, 1/4 inch minimum case thickness, 1/4 inch front plate thickness,
0.300 inch minimum rear plate thickness. Maximum rotor cavity diameter is 5.840 inches. Rotor helix angle of Roots type may not exceed that of standard 71 series GM-type rotor (4 degrees per inch) and for high helix the
rotor helix angle may not exceed 6.5 degrees per inch (123.5 degrees total) over 19 inch maximum rotor length. No variable speed devices allowed. Aluminium studs (supercharger to manifold) mandatory. All superchargers
must be equipped with SFI spec. 14.2 restraint with bag. The MSA reserves the right to change the over-drive limits on any engine combination at anytime. See GSR:1.12, 1.13, 2.13 and 4.8.
PM 2.1 CLUTCH, FLYWHEEL, FLYWHEEL SHIELD.
To read:
Flywheel and clutch meeting SFI Spec 1.2 or 1.4 mandatory. Flywheel shield meeting SFI Spec 6. 1 or 6.3 mandatory. Flywheel shield meeting SFI spec 6.3
mandatory on all super-charged cars. Flywheel and clutch meeting SFI spec 1.2 or 1.4 maximum mandatory on supercharged cars. Flywheel and clutch with more than 2 clutch discs prohibited on all supercharged cars.
Flywheel shield meeting SFI spec 6.1 or 6.3 mandatory on all normally aspirated andlor nitrous oxide equipped cars. Flywheel and clutch meeting SFI spec 1.2 or 1.4 maximum mandatory on normally aspirated andlor nitrous
oxide equipped cars. Flywheel and clutch with more than 3 clutch discs prohibited on all normally andlor nitrous oxide equipped cars. From 01/01/2001 flywheel shield meeting SFI spec 6.3 mandatory on all cars. The use
of multi-stage, lock-up type clutches is prohibited. Flywheel shield cannot be welded into the car and or used as crossmember of the frame. Frame and/or body braces cannot be welded to flywheel shield and all
attachments must be used. Clutch release must be manually operated by driver's foot; electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics or any other device may in no way affect the clutch operation. See GSR 2.3, 2.5, 2.6 and 2.9.
PM 3.2 STEERING.
To read:
Stock-type steering in conventional location mandatory. Commercially available high quality quick-disconnect steering wheel mandatory, units meeting SFI Spec 42.1
recommended (mandatory from 01/01/2001). Minimum steering wheel diameter, 11 inches (279 mm). See GSR 3.3and 4.1.
PM 4.6 ROLL CAGE.
To read.
Chassis must have manufacturer's name, serial
number and date of manufacturer. All chassis must meet SFI Spec 25.1C. Plating of chassis prohibited; painting permitted. Chassis must be inspected yearly by MSA and have valid serialised SFI chassis sticker affixed to
the frame before participation. See GSR 4.4, 4.10, 4.11 and 4.11.2.
PM 7.3 FIREWALL.
To read:
Mandatory. Must be made of minimum .024 inch (.6mm) steel. Moving stock firewall rearward for
engine installation permitted. See

PM 9.2 FIRE EXTINGUISHER SYSTEM.
To read:
Minimum 2.3 kg (5 pound) (as of 01/01/2001 9kg(20 Ibs)) FIA/MSA accepted fire extinguishing system
mandatory. System must be divided with one nozzle on driver's side and one nozzle on engine. See GSR 9.3
